Horse-Buggy Struck By Drunk Woman Across From Police Station In PA, Authorities Say

A 60-year-old Coatesville woman has been arrested after she drunkenly crashed into a horse-and-buggy across the street from a police station in Lancaster County, police announced of Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Joyce Elaine Martin, "displayed signs of impairment" when the police come over to Shady Maple Smorgasbord to investigate the vehicle verse horse-and-buggy crash reported on March 10 at 5:50 p.m., according to the East Earl Township Police Department. 

It is unclear if any person or if the horse was hurt in the crash.

A breathalyzer test showed Martin had a blood alcohol concentration of .205%, which is above the legal limit of .08% in Pennsylvania, as detailed in the release. 

She has been charged with driving under the influence -general impairment, first offense; DUI - highest rate, first offense; and a summary offense for driving on right side of roadway, the police said and court records confirmed.

Her preliminary hearing has been set Magisterial District Judge David L. Ashworth on April 20 at 9:15 a.m., according to her court docket.
